If you are relatively new to the area you might be interested in our average freeze/frost dates.

The general rule of thumb is that most plants freeze when temperatures remain at 28°F for five hours. Exceptions: seedlings (tender new leaves), often give up the ghost when temperatures dip to 32-33°F. Tropical plants have differing low-temperature thresholds.

Frost occurs when air temperatures dip below 32°F and ice crystals form on plant leaves.
