Propagating Cactus

These tips on propagating cactus were shared by a garden club member.

1.      Feed once a year in the spring

2.      Give it a small amount of water when transplanting and do not water for 1 month

3.      It is important that the cut end is completely callused before transplanting …1 week to a month.

4.      When the green areas between the ridges/spikes appear to shrink inward, that is  the time to water it.

5.      It is important to face the plant in the same direction that it was in. Meaning what faced west before transplanting needs to face west after transplanting in its new environment. Good nurseries place a ‘X’ on the pot  to denote the north or south side direction of the plant.
